Mantle Lab
On tueday we performed a lab during science class that showed how the mantle acts as a liquid but is a solid. First we mixed corn starch and water togeher in a beaker. Second we took the mixture out of the beaker and put it in out hands. If i were to roll the mixture in my hand fast the mixture would become hard like clay. If i were to lay it still in m hand it would melt but ot turn into a liquid. It acts like a liquid by melting but is hard like a solid. The texture of the melting mixture was like playdo. The resemblance that the mixture has of the earths mantle is that it is a very weak solid. The mantle is a solid layer but acts like a liquid. This lab was surprising and very cool. I did not expect the mixture to melt in my hand.

October Sky
The movie October Sky was about four young boys who wanted to create a rocket that would succesfully fly. They were inspired after they saw the russians launch the first satellite to orbit earth. This satellite was called Sputnik. Homer, his friends, and a rocket genius from Homer's class create many succefull rockets based off of pure alchohol. One of the rockets launched by homer and his crew went 3,000 feet into the sky. Homer was soon discovered and called rocket boy. Many people watched the launching of his rockets. He entered a science fair and explianed how he made his rockets. Homer won first place in the contest. He recieved scholorships from many schools. This movie inspired me in many ways. One way was that Homer and his friends were regular people and they changed the world. This shows that ordinary people can do many things.

The Cat Syndrome
Cri-Du-Chat, also known as The Cat syndrome, is a rare disease that is mostly found in female infants of all ethnic back rounds. This disease is caused by a shortage of the chromosome 5.Cri-u-Chat was discovered by a French doctor in 1963. His name was Dr. Jerome Lejeume. This disease causes many different disabilities. One disability is that the infant has a high pitched cry that sounds like a cat meowing. Also, the infant will be very light weighted. It will also cause growing problems. Another disability is the infant will have distinct and unusual facial features. The baby will also have feeding problems. Right now, there is no cure or treatment for Cri-Du-Chat. There are two tests that can be executed to tell whether or not the infant has Cri-Du-Chat,but these are the only tests that can be done and they do not cure or treat the infants Cri-Du-Chat disease. I found these peices of information at

The Roller Coaster Lab
We have prepared for the roller coaster lab since december by trying to earn as much omega money as possible. All of omega had to contribute by bringing in toilet paper rolls, boxes, and other card board material. We had to buy the cardboard material with the omega money. Then, we had to create a roller coater. A marble had to ride on the roller coaster without getting stuck. We had to use Newton's laws to get the marble from one end the other. The experiment so far is very fun and gets my mind thinking alot.

For the past 5 years people in New York have been smelling a maple syrup type of smell in the air. The smell has been in and out of New York. At first people thought it was a biological attack from terrorists but it turned out that the smell was coming from a North Bergen New jersey seed plant. The extract from the seed gives off an odor that smells like maple syrup. Mayor Bloomberg informed New York today about the smell and told them that the smell is harmless.

The Meade’s ETX-LS
This robotic telescope finds the stars for you. This telescope picks up glowing dots which are stars and then the motor on it turns the scope to the patch of sky where the glowing dots are. It can speak to you and inform you on the stars. It has a built in GPS system. The Meade's ETX-LS can take snap shots of the sky and stars. This is truly something i would expect to see in a movie. This is an amazing invention.
Barack Obama social studies

2009 is going to be an amazing year with Barack Obama as our president. Being the first African American president Obama is very respected. He was inaugurated on January 20th 2009. I think he will lead America in good ways.
"Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real, they are serious, and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America: They will be met." said Barrack as he was being inaugurated. I think he meens that America has many problems and challenges that will occure in the future. But, he will overcome them with us and make America a bettar place.
"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin again the work of remaking America." Barack said. I think this meens that America should remake themselves and start a new and bettar country. We have to restart and forget the bad times.
My oppinion on the inaguaration of Barrack Obama was inspirational. He states that he will take troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. I have a good feeling about Barrack and i think he will do his best to lead america in good ways.
